Dear Families, As we look forward to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences, we want to share an important update about how we share your child’s learning progress this year. We are moving to a Standards-Based Report Card for grades 1-5. This is a big shift from how grades were given in the past, and we want to make sure you know what to expect before you meet with your child’s teacher. What is Changing? In the past, students received one single grade for an entire subject, like Math or Reading. With our new report cards, you will see scores for specific skills within each subject. For example, instead of just one overall Math grade, you will see how your child is doing with adding, word problems, or telling time. Understanding the Scores Our goal is for students to master these grade-level skills by the end of the school year in June. Because learning takes time, you should expect to see your child progress throughout the year; ● Trimester 1: It is completely appropriate for your child to receive a 1 or a 2 right now. This does not mean your child is failing or behind. It simply means we have just started learning these new grade-level skills. ● Trimester 2 & 3: As we practice and build on these skills each week, your child’s scores will grow. ● End of Year (June): The goal is for students to reach a 3, which shows they have fully learned that skill. This new format gives all of us a much clearer picture of what your child does well and where they might need a little extra help. Your child's teacher will go over this in more detail during your conference and answer any questions you have. You will also receive a parent-guide with the first report card. Thank you for working with us to support your child’s learning! |
We are pleased to announce that picture re-takes will be held on October 22 from 8:00 to 10:00 am. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who were unable to participate on the original picture day to have their photos taken. Here are some important details to help make the process smooth: - Picture packet order forms are available in the office
- Payment options include check or cash
- Please note that photographers do not have change, so please place the exact amount in the sealed envelope
- You may also place your order online at mylifetouch.com
If you are unhappy with pictures taken on the original picture day, your child may return the picture packet to the photographer for a re-take. You will receive the exact same packet you originally purchased. |

Storybook Pumpkin Project Your family is invited to help me create a “Storybook Pumpkin Patch” in our library. This involves reading a favorite storybook, making plans, and then decorating a pumpkin to look like one of the characters. A little imagination, some craft supplies, and a pumpkin or fall squash are all you need to join the fun. Your student’s pumpkin can represent a human character like Fancy Nancy, an animal like Clark the Shark, a vehicle like Otis the Tractor, a machine like R2D2, or an imaginary creature like a mermaid or unicorn. Storybook pumpkins can be an individual project, a family project or a multi-sibling project. This year we will showcase pumpkins that are decorated to celebrate Hispanic heritage month, you can decorate your pumpkin as a notable hispanic leader or author. Please stick to these guidelines to keep us bug and leaky-rotten-pumpkin-juice-free! You must use a pumpkin (artificial or real) or a Fall Squash. No cut or carved pumpkins. Do not use any food or candy for decorations. (Again… this is to avoid bugs.) Due to limited space, please choose a pumpkin that keeps your project smaller than a basketball. DROP-OFF PUMPKINS Please plan to drop your pumpkin off at school on Wednesday October 28th by 7:45-8:00 am. Please send your student to school with the Pumpkin, the pumpkin’s matching book or copy of the front of the book. Each student that participates in the pumpkin project will receive a small prize and the top 3 per grade level will receive $5.00 in bookfair dollars credit towards our next bookfair. (Bookfair is Dec. 7th- 11th this year) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED I’ll need 4 cleared volunteers to help me on the morning that the pumpkins arrive. This involves helping students fill out display name tags and placing their pumpkins in the correct patch areas. Please email me at tcagliero@pasoschools.org, if you are available to help from 7:30am-8:30 am October 28th. PICK-UP PUMPKINS Pumpkins will be sent home on October 30th after school. Please help your students make plans to get their pumpkins home. YOU’RE INVITED! Please come see the storybook pumpkin patch in the library at our Fiesta de octubre on October 29th 4:30pm-6:30pm! Thank you for helping with this family project! (Please email me, if you have any questions!) Tracy Cagliero Georgia Brown Library Media Specialist |

If you would like more information about your student's report, English language development, or this assessment, please reach out to Nicole Bailey, our site English Learner coordinator, through Parent Square or email at nbailey@pasoschools.org. There are important changes to our early student check-out procedures effective this school year. Verbal permission for early check-outs is no longer permitted. To authorize anyone to pick up your child early, you must provide one of the following: Please note that this requirement applies to all individuals picking up your student, regardless of whether they are listed on your emergency contact form. Additionally, we ask that all individuals picking up students bring a valid ID with them. There are no exceptions to this policy. If you have authorized someone to pick up your child, please inform them of this requirement in advance. As a reminder, emergency contacts are designated for the school to contact only if parents or guardians cannot be reached. They serve a different purpose than early check-out authorization. If you have any questions about these procedures, please contact Student Services at the district office at (805) 769-1000. Thank you for your cooperation and attention to these important safety measures. |
Thank you for your interest in volunteering in our classroom and on field trips! We truly appreciate your involvement in our school community. To volunteer this school year, please submit a volunteer packet through Informed K-12. If you have already been fingerprinted, you will not need to be fingerprinted again. However, please note that fingerprinting is required for all field trip volunteers. When submitting your packet, please include the following: - A valid driver's license
- Your most current negative TB test results (valid for 4 years)
- A Certificate of Completion from the "Mandated Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting - Training for Volunteers in California" test
This training is required for all volunteers this year and can be completed online, the link is included in the volunteer packet online. Please note that only the district certificate will be accepted. On the day of any field trip, please remember to bring your ID and sign in at the front office before departure. You can find the volunteer packet link below. If you have any questions about the volunteer process, please don't hesitate to reach out. We look forward to having you join us! |
As we begin the new school year, we want to share an important update regarding classroom celebrations, including birthdays. To ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students, food items—including cupcakes, cakes, and other snacks—will no longer be permitted in the classroom for celebrations. Many of our students have food allergies, specific dietary restrictions, or religious practices regarding food. We still love recognizing our students on their special days! We encourage you to celebrate your child using non-food alternatives. Some great ideas include: - Reading a favorite book to the class
- Gifting non-food treat bags (e.g., pencils, stickers, erasers)
- Providing mini art or craft kits
- Sharing individual containers of Play-Doh
Please contact your student's teacher in advance to coordinate. Please note that if food items are brought to school for classroom distribution, they cannot be brought into the building and will need to be passed out off school grounds after school hours. Thank you for your understanding, support, and partnership in keeping our classroom community safe and inclusive for every student. |
